Child Protection Statement

The College fully recognises its responsibilities for child protection and as such has a named member of the Senior Management Team responsible for child protection issues and a policy which applies to all staff, governors and volunteers working in the College.

The College will:

  • establish a safe working environment in which students can learn and develop and where they feel secure and are listened to
  • ensure that students know there are staff in the College who they can approach if they are worried

Every Child Matters is always at the centre of our thinking, planning and our provision.

Personal Tutors

Your personal tutor will help you settle into College life and progress rapidly by setting targets and using a series of individual tutorials and review sessions. This does not mean they do the work for you, it means you have to be prepared and willing to go that little bit further under their guidance and encouragement.

Enrichment

The College provides a wide range of activities that it hopes students will take part in. These include sporting activities, trips, visits and events that will help you broaden your outlook on life and improve your opportunities. If you want to do or organise something new, do tell us! Join in and enjoy!

Counselling Services

The college offers a confidential counselling service to promote the health and well being of all students.

You may be stressed due to a difficult situation, your work, relationships, loss, depression or anxiety. You may want to explore your own personal development or discuss a difficult decision.

Whatever you reasons, counselling can help you acknowledge your feelings and clarify issues so you can begin to change things for yourself.

The College counsellor, Joan Hart, is available Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, during term time only

To arrange an appointment, contact Reception on 01983 526631 or Student Services on 01983 550581

Further Student Information

Student Voice

Student Voice is exactly what it says it is – it is a vehicle for all students to have a voice to share their opinions with the college and about the college.

The college being the management - that is: governors, senior managers, middle managers and your course tutors.

Having a vehicle to inform these people about what you think about your college and your experiences whilst you are here, both good and bad is important and extremely valuable as this means you, yes you, can make a difference and influence your experience.

It only takes one person to raise a valid comment and suggest a change.

To date your comments and suggestions have influenced the following:

  • More seating so there are more places to relax
  • More water fountains in different areas around the college
  • Improved facilities such as changing rooms for the dance studio
  • Improved environment - F Block new carpets, toilet cleaning and painting, painting of corridors and classrooms
  • A central position for the Personal Tutor drop in which in future will also have a student area for congregating and meeting (tables and chairs)
  • A student pop up on the computers
  • A Student Voice position on the College web site
  • A Student Voice information board
  • A Student Voice logo
  • Recycling bins for paper and aluminium cans

All this has been done in a short period of time and this year has been quite experimental - a pilot sort of speak; next year we need to formalise the process so there are identified meeting periods on the College Calendar - this will give the process recognition. College Management are eager to support this whole process so lets make the most of Student Power!

So if you are interested why not join up or continue to be YOUR Course's Student Rep - that's all it takes!
