More information about our courses...
English and MathsThe Basic Skills Agency defines Skills for Life as "The ability to read, write and speak in English, and to use mathematics at a level necessary to function and progress at work and in society in general".
A recent survey found more than five million adults have literacy skills below the level needed to get a good GCSE grade. Not surprisingly, the situation is more acute with maths, with 15 million adults having numeracy skills below GCSE level. Large numbers of people with skills at this level go out to work every day. Often their ability to progress at work will be limited by their skills level, as will their ability to take up other training opportunities.
All Skills for Life courses can be provided FREE OF CHARGE for a limited period. The Isle of Wight College recognises the needs of these adults and all learners are treated with respect and sensitivity. Sessions are available during the day, evening or on Saturdays. Individuals may attend College or other venues around the Island. This is an excellent way for people lacking in qualifications to gain self confidence and progress their career.
