Brickwork

The industry employs over 1.5 million people and is growing, needing almost 80,000 new entrants each year. Bricklayers build the interior and exterior walls of buildings and other types of walls, including the linings of tunnels, and also repair existing walls and refurbish old buildings.

The industry offers employment to people with a wide range of skills from craft workers to engineers. It needs people such as surveyors and architects, with technical and creative skills, who ensure that buildings and the landscape that surrounds them are both functional and attractive. Workers in this industry must be able to work as part of a team and alone.
