The Foundation Degrees

Foundation Degrees are new employment-related, modern higher education qualifications designed to equip students with the higher level skills employers are looking for.

Foundation Degrees are bringing higher education and business closer together to meet the needs of employers. The flexibility of this qualification provides a new opportunity for those students already in the workplace who have a desire to succeed. Foundation Degrees have been developed by the higher education sector directly with employers to ensure the skills they need are met.

Foundation Degrees are suitable for people in supervisory or middle management roles who are currently in employment.

Successful achievement of the Foundation Degree can allows progression to year 3 of degree courses or part time top-up opportunities at many universities.

University of Portsmouth

The Foundation Degree in Business and Management is in partnership with University of Portsmouth. The Foundation Degree lasts for three years. There are four units each academic year. Two of the units each year are taught units and the other two are work based which will be supported by College tutors with tutorials and workshops to ensure students are able to complete the assessments.

The Higher National Diploma in Business is delivered in partnership with University of Portsmouth. The course is over two years with 8 units studied each year. Successful completion of the HND can enable progression to either year 2 or year 3 of a BA (Hons) depending on certain criteria being met.

University of Chichester

The Foundation Degree in Early Childhood Studies is in partnership with University of Chichester and lasts for three years.

Upon gaining the Foundation Degree with University of Chichester candidates can to top up to an ordinary (pass) Degree in Early Childhood Studies. University of Chichester are due to carry out a validation in 2008 to allow top up to a full Honours Degree in Early Childhood Status. On obtaining a Degree status it is possible to do the Validation route to gain Early Years Professional Status.

Higher National Certificates and Higher National Diplomas

These are work-related University of Chichester higher education qualifications. The Higher National Certificate is studied part time over two years and can then be topped up to Higher National Diploma by one further year of study. Those achieving the Higher National Diploma can progress straight to year 3 of Degree courses at universities if certain criteria are met.
